As you are probably aware, the Trinity Council decided last Sunday to go online with our worship services for the next two weeks – and then see where things stand. Since then the province has directed churches to close in order to try and contain the spread of the coronavirus.
BUT that doesn’t mean that we won’t be worshipping together. We have been talking with the other churches in the city and we will be providing a city-wide online service for all the churches. All the clergy will be involved and we have some very special music planned. I hope you’ll see this as a great opportunity to come together and address a common challenge.
We’re hoping that you won’t just decide to take a break from church. The church has never been defined by walls or buildings, but by the spirit and community, and we’re hoping that everyone will make a special effort to be online the next few Sundays to show our support and to witness that this virus won’t stop us from being the church. For while we may not be physically together, we will be virtually and spiritually one community of faith. Even as we self-isolate, we are not alone.
There are a number of ways to connect to the service:
You can go to our website, www.trinityunited.church/livestream (actually the home page “trinityunited.church” has a link to the livestream and you can just click that button to go to the livestream page.) You’ll find a media player on the page – just click the “Play” button and you’re all set. If you have any trouble, sometimes it helps to Refresh the browser page.
Or you can join us on Facebook – just search for “Trinity United, Thunder Bay.”
If you have a ROKU box or a smart TV with a ROKU channel, search for our channel there – “Trinity United Thunder Bay”, and then you can add the channel and watch the service on your TV.
Some of you may not have a computer or internet. What I’d invite you to do is ask a family member to come over with their cell phone and watch it on that. Even those without the technology have family (or close friends) who do, and wouldn’t it be a wonderful experience to share your regular worship time with a grandson or granddaughter!
You’ll notice on the website that there is a Donate button. If you want to make an offering, feel free to use that button. Any donations that come in from other churches will be forwarded to them. This also might be a good time to consider signing up for PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittances) and your support can continue while you are unable to attend in person.
You’ll also note that there is a Chat Box on livestream page. I encourage you to let us know you are there and feel free to engage in a conversation with others.
The Council will evaluate near the end of the two weeks and let you know what will be happening going forward. All events at the church are cancelled or postponed. Feel free to call the church if you have any questions.
So, stay safe everyone, and “see” you on Sunday!
